WALKING AIDS

These are several devices that a patient can use in order to increase his or her stability and safety while moving around independently.
There are various types of walking aids which include:

  1. Walking sticks
  2. Elbow crutches
  3. Auxiliary crutches(small, medium and large)
  4. Tripod stick
  5. Quadi stick
  6.  Wheelchairs

Walking frames both with or without wheels

The prescription of walking aids should ideally be done by a physiotherapist or occupational therapist after a thorough assessment of gait, balance, cognition and the cardiovascular, musculoskeletal and neurological systems. The assessment should also take into account the individuals day to day mobility requirements.
